Joey is my special boy. He was found in a horse paddock by a family as a newborn, outside of fawn season, in the middle of Covid-lockdown, 2020. He is my little miracle baby, and I adore him. He is sweet and gentle and will always stick close to my side when I am in the paddock. He loves his spot on the lounge too!
Joey is a Rusa deer. Rusa originated from Indonesia, so their physiology is suited to hot, humid climates. When you pat and cuddle them, you will feel that their fur is coarse and bristly like a broom. But on the inside they are so soft, loving and chilled out. I say they have a Bali-vibe, as they are so much more laid-back than the European deer. 
When you sponsor Joey, you will be helping to provide food, comfortable environments and veterinary care for him and all the animals here at the Lyell Deer Sanctuary, and supporting us to be able to continue rescuing and rehabilitating more deer. We are entirely self-funded, and every little bit helps so much!
